ORNAMENTAL ALLEY TREE SPRING BIRCH "YOUNGII"

The spring birch, also colloquially called hanging birch, is a classic, well-known, fast-growing tree variety ideal for the Irish climate. With its colour-changing classic and well-known black-and-white bark, it has a high cultural-historical value as the newly burst leaf buds are customarily used as a decoration for midsummer and at graduation. The branches hang heavily with small dark green leaves that change to a clear orange-yellow in autumn. Forms typical yellow male pendants in the spring that spread a lot of pollen. The birch is one of the hardiest varieties and can be seen both in the south and north of Ireland.

Facts about trunk size
On trees, size is measured in trunk height and trunk circumference. The reason is that a trunk does not grow in height, but continues to be the same length (although thicker every year) throughout the life of the tree. The length of the trunk is determined by branching up a trunk and then topping the tree to develop a crown. The trunk height of the tree is measured from the root to the point where branching begins. The tree's only growth zone is always at the far end of the branches.
