ABOUT SYRINGA VULGARIS
Syringa Vulgaris – Lilac 10-pack! 130-150cm+ XXL
Suitable as both a cut and free-growing hedge. Also suitable as a gazebo or shrubbery. Flowering in May/June with blue/purple fragrant flowers. Prune immediately after flowering for safe bud formation. Thrives in most soils but prefers nutrient rich calcareous soil in an open sunny position. Can grow up to 5-6 meters high as a bush.
Planting of Syringa Vulgaris
It is best to plant Syringa vulgaris in autumn or spring. Dig a hole twice the size of the root system of the shrub, making sure there is enough room for the soil to drain properly. Add some compost or other organic matter to the soil to help with drainage and nourish the shrub.
How to choose the right place to grow Syringa Vulgaris
To thrive, Syringa vulgaris needs to be planted in a location that receives plenty of sunlight and is well drained. The shrub can also grow in partial shade but will produce fewer flowers. It is also important to choose a place where the bush will not be exposed to strong winds.
Soil requirements
Syringa vulgaris thrives in loamy, well-drained soil. It is also important that the soil has a pH value between 6.5 and 7.5. If the soil is too acidic, lime can be added to raise the pH value.
